Finding Time to Be Creative (Even When You’re Tapped Out)
By Misti | Dressed Up Hippy — An Artist’s Adventure Into Authenticity

I’ve worn a lot of hats this week.
The “business owner” hat. The “problem solver” hat. The “email answerer,” the “social media scheduler,” the “domestic goddess,” the “errand runner,” the “to-do list tamer”… all stacked neatly (and a bit wobbly) on top of each other.
But you know which hat hasn’t made an appearance?
My favorite one — the “artist” hat. The one with paint smudges and daydreams tucked inside the brim. Ah..when the hats are stacked too high.
This week, I didn’t lift a paintbrush once. Not because I didn’t want to, but because life has a way of filling in every empty square on the calendar before you can even pick a color.
Being a creative and a business owner means I’m often pulled between passion and paperwork, between inspiration and invoices. And while I love what I do, sometimes I miss that quiet kind of time — the open-window, tea-steaming, music-floating kind — when ideas whisper and colors call. When I can simply be the artist instead of managing the art.
But here’s the truth I keep coming back to:
Creativity doesn’t need hours of solitude (though that’s lovely).
Sometimes, it just needs a few stolen minutes. A quiet breath. A doodle in the margins. A reminder that it’s okay to pause the hustle and make space for the magic.
So, if your week has been a whirlwind like mine — if your brushes are dry and your soul’s a little scattered — this is your gentle nudge to give yourself grace.
Let the laundry sit. Let the inbox wait. Go outside. Close your eyes. Pick up whatever medium is calling you — even if it’s just for ten minutes.
The art will come back.
The quiet will find you.
And when it does, oh, what beauty it’ll bring.
